An urgent “do not drink” notice has been issued to hundreds of Surrey homes following tap water tests by Thames Water. The company said the advice was “precautionary” after results on Thursday indicated “a possible deterioration” in the quality of drinking water in “some areas”.Some 616 homes in Bramley are believed to be affected.Residents are being advised not to use tap water for drinking, cooking or brushing their teeth - but can continue to shower and their wash hands.Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, who was MP for the are until the dissolution of parliament for the general election, said he had been in touch with DEFRA and Thames Water and was monitoring the situation.“I have requested that bottled water stations are in Bramley itself - they are being set up now,” he added.

Once onboard, casualty care was administered, while the lifeboat made best speed to the harbour at Tenby, where multiple Welsh Ambulance resources were waiting.
With the casualty unable to confirm if he was alone on the yacht or not, the lifeboat headed back to the scene to commence a search, where they were also joined by Angle all-weather lifeboat and Coastguard rescue helicopters from St Athan and Newquay in Cornwall.
Having thoroughly searched area for several hours in choppy seas and heavy rain and with nobody else reported missing, the search was brought to an end and all assets stood down, with the lifeboat returning to station, arriving just after 1am.
“We’d like to thanks our colleagues at Milford Haven Coastguard, Angle Lifeboat RNLI and Coastguard rescue helicopters from St Athan and Newquay for their help in this complex search and also to the Welsh Ambulance service and Tenby Fire Station,” said a spokesperson for Tenby RNLI.
“I was a great multi-agency effort.”

The RNLI has launched its Float to Live campaign in Northern Ireland with a demonstration on how to carry out the technique that could prove lifesaving for anyone who finds themselves in difficulty in the water this summer.

The demonstration which highlights a person in plain clothing accidentally entering the water before using the float to live skill to survive, took place in Portrush Harbour.

There were four accidental drownings in Northern Ireland in 2023. Many people who die from accidental drownings had no intention of entering the water, such as those walking, with causes including slips, trips and falls, being cut off by the tide, or swept in by waves.

The RNLI is reminding everyone to remember Float to Live if they find themselves in trouble in water: tilt your head back with ears submerged and try to relax and control your breathing. Use your hands to help you stay afloat and then, once you are through the initial shock, call for help to or swim to safety if you can.

Finn Mullen from the RNLI’s water safety team, said: “We are approaching the summer holidays which we expect to be incredibly busy at the coast and across open water. We want everyone to enjoy being around the water but we also want to make sure people stay safe and know what to do in an emergency.

“It is important that anyone visiting open water understands the risks of the environment. We want to make sure people know what to do in an emergency. If you get into trouble in the water, Float to Live: tilt your head back with ears submerged and try to relax and control your breathing. Use your hands to help you stay afloat and then, once you are through the initial shock, call for help to or swim to safety if you can.”
